What Is Hospice?

Hospice is specialized care designed for individuals who are chronically or terminally ill. It not only focuses on medical needs but also provides emotional and spiritual support for patients and their families. The goal of hospice is to bring comfort, dignity, and peace of mind during life’s final stages.

Who Is Eligible?

Hospice care is available to:

  • Individuals with a life expectancy of six months or less (as certified by a physician).
  • Patients and families who choose comfort-focused care rather than aggressive, curative treatment.

Where Is Hospice Care Provided?

Hospice services are delivered in the setting that feels most like home. Care may take place in:

  • The patient’s residence
  • A nursing or residential care facility

This allows patients to remain in a familiar and supportive environment.

Who Pays for Hospice?

Hospice care is fully covered by:

  • Medicare
  • Medicaid

Vara Hospice also works directly with your insurance provider to ensure coverage and reduce financial concerns, so families can focus on what matters most.
